--------The Joseph Rowntree Theatre is in Art Deco style, built in 1935,by Rowntree & Co trustees, in Haxby Road York,near the Rowntree factory
( Now Nestles ) It was built at the cost of £12,000. It was opened by chairman of Rowntrees Seebohn Rowntree "With the aim of providing a hall which may be a fitting centre for recreational and educational activities which make a full and happy life ". It was known as Hall but renamed Theatre in 1946.. Across the road is the old Rowntree factory and Library.----------I went on a Residents Festival visit, when residents can go free to over 100 museums and other places this weekend in January. While i visited Joseph Rowntree Theatre there were rehearsals for "Kiss Me Kate"--Future events are "Legally Blonde", -- "High School Musical"and "The Full Monty".======Rowntree & Co is a confectionery business based in York England formed in 1862 close to Quaker Philanthropy.
